Dr Visit Update

AJ went to the doctor for his 24 month well visit on June 3rd. He still has a heart murmur but still in good health.

30 pounds 2 ounces

The doctor confirmed my concern that he drinks way too much milk so it is time to cut back (easier said than done). If this persists, he may become over weight and malnourished.
Dr Hirsch was slightly concerned about his speech because he should be speaking in 3 word sentences. She asked that he return in 6 months instead of 12 months. I, however, am not worried. Anyone who knows AJ, knows that he loves to talk....not in sentences but paragraphs. I will admit that it was hard to understand him in the past but he gets better every day. Lately he asked, "Where did the cat go?" and he told the cat to, "Get out his bed".

Dr Visit Update

Goodnews from Aiden's cardiology appointment. AJ's heart murmur is normal. An EKG and ultra sound confirms this. The doctor compared his condition to a noisy pipe in the home that you hear at night. A plumber checks it out and assures you that your pipes function properly and normally...just a little noisy.

Whew, what a relief!

The doctor and his staff were friendly. The room where the ultra sound was performed had a TV placed directly in his face. He laid on the exam table for 15 minutes and was distracted by watching his favorite Disney shows. He was so brave.

Weight: 26 pounds 8 ounces Length: 32 inches

As always Dr Hirsh checked Aiden's heart beat but this time she heard something to be concerned about.... a heart murmur. She referred AJ to Pediatrics Cardiology at Children's Hospital for a second opinion so I made the soonest appointment available on January 12th.

I had never heard of a heart murmur so I researched it online as soon as we got home. I learned that murmurs may be caused by a number of factors or diseases, including the following:

◦defective heart valves

◦holes in the interior heart walls (atrial septal defect or ventricular septal defect)

◦surgical repair of congenital (present at birth) heart defects

Right away I freaked out and I wondered if all murmurs signify heart disease? I kept reading and found out that this is not always the case. Sometimes, a murmur may be heard in a normal child who has a fever or who is anemic; these murmurs often go away when the underlying problem is treated. Some children have what is known as an innocent murmur. These murmurs are not related to congenital heart defects, and usually resolve by the time a child reaches adulthood.

Doctor Visit Update

23.8 pounds 33 inches

Aiden's blood count was rechecked (at his 15 mo check up) and is back to normal. Dr. Hirsch instructed me to discontinue his daily iron drops.

The doctor complemented my son's good behavior during his exam. According to her, 15 month olds don't cooperate in a doctors office. I will admit that AJ is on his best behavior while on quick outings and errands however sitting through the meetings at the kingdom hall is a work in progress.

Good news, Aiden is healthy. He was re-checked by the doctor last night and his liver is back in its proper place. As predicted, his cold must have been the cause of temporary liver displacement.

22 pounds 4 oz 30 inches long
Dr. Hirsh noticed during Aidens physical examination that his liver is lower than it should be. This can mean a number of things. At the least, it can be a sign of a viral infection. She requested that he be reexamined in 30 days. She hopes that the problem corrects itself. I hope she is right.

A few days later, Aiden began to show symptoms of a cold. Perhaps the doctor saw it coming before symptoms manifest? Keep your fingers crossed.

Aiden is right on track weighing 19.11 pounds and 29 1/2 inches long

Aiden weighs 17.4 pds and is 26 1/2 inches long. (still not bigger than Justin but close)
He got his flu and H1N1 vaccination. Now I can relax and breathe again.

AJ got another round of shots at todays doctor appointment. Once again, my son was a G.

The doctor gave us the ok to begin solids. First stop...rice cereal. Stay tuned for pixs.

Aiden is my little brave soldier. He got his shots today and he did not cry. He only fussed a bit, many seconds after being poked by the needles.

I have the cutest video of him in the doctors office waiting for his shots but could not upload it due to technical difficulties. Stay tuned.

He weighs 10.13 pds.

2nd Pedi Appt

Good news, Aiden gained over a pound in only 7 days. He now weighs 5.14. Dr Hirsch and mommy are happy with his progress.

1st Pediatrician Appt

Aiden lost more than 10% of his birth weight and weighs 4 lbs 11 ozs. So for now I'll have to give him my milk by bottle until we can figure out breastfeeding. The doctor wants to see Aiden in a week to make sure he's gaining enough weight.
